22 South Food Hall reopens with new restaurants at Historic Manhattan Casino

22 South Food Hall reopens with new restaurants at Historic Manhattan Casino

22 South Food Hall has officially relaunched inside the Historic Manhattan Casino in St. Petersburg. The concept first opened in the spring of 2021. Irie Mon, one of the original food hubs inside the concept, will remain at the food hall. Several new concepts have been advertised, including a scintillating Italian concept we’re eager to experience.

The announcement comes less than two months after news broke that the revitalization project on the Deuces corridor was closing its doors due to a lack of funding. In response, Urban Collective, a group of entrepreneurs and community advocates, stepped in to breathe new life into the incredible project, reopening its doors to the community.

The location offers a combination of local restaurants that deliver familiar favorites and innovative food concepts. In addition to the reopening of the food hall, the Historic Manhattan Casino is now available to host an array of events including but not limited to; special occasions, cultural and community events, corporate meetings, fundraisers, comedy shows, reunions, and more.

Built in 1925, the Manhattan Casino has contributed to entertainment and culture in South St. Petersburg’s African American community for decades. At one point, 22nd Street South, also known as the Deuces, was a thriving downtown area and the Manhattan Casino has long been known as the community dance hall.

“We recognize The Manhattan Casino’s cultural and historical significance to the local African-American community and will continue to honor it and celebrate it. Our goal is to become once again a beacon of entertainment, community building, and pride for generations to come,” said Urban Collective member Tamisha Darling-Roberson.

To further honor the music greats that have graced the Manhattan, the group will have live music monthly and give local artists a place to perform. “We are excited to be a part of rebuilding this legacy and looking forward to honoring those African-Americans who paved the way,” said Urban Collective member LaShante Keys. The Grand Opening will be held on October 1 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. All are invited to order from the many food concepts, meet the new owners, and hear plans for the future of the 22 South Food Hall and the Historic Manhattan Casino.
