Let freedom ring, St. Pete. The distillery scene in the Burg is spirited to say the least. The latest addition to that scene, American Freedom Distillery, finally has an opening timeline. That’s right, this (Florida) winter, Tampa Bay residents will be able to keep warm at American Freedom Distillery. This space is much more than just a spot to make the famous Horse Soldier Bourbon; American Freedom Distillery will feature a cocktail bar, an upscale bar menu, a library, and a retail shop.

Crafting a signature cocktail menu

The space is huge. American Freedom Distillery spans 16,000 square feet. Every square inch is put to good use with what the creators of the spirits have in mind.

A TBD local mixologist is set to curate an expansive signature cocktail menu. Mix that Rekker Rum with just about anything and you can just go ahead and take all of our money.

In addition to a cocktail menu, the distillery will also feature a bar populated with local craft beers. Pairing the American Freedom aesthetic with the best flavors available in Tampa Bay is our favorite kind of union.

Enter the tasting room 

Of course there will be a tasting room. Here, visitors will learn to “nose and taste bourbon plus the history of bourbon over a tasting of all three of [American Freedom’s] bourbons,” according to Meredith Koko, who heads up the Distillery Experience. These tastings will always be available. After you elevate your sense of taste and smell, you can purchase a bottle of bourbon to take home.

There are also plans for a library. Don’t worry, you won’t need a card, and you won’t have to mind your volume. The library lounge will feature comfortable leather couches and memorabilia from the Horse Soldiers who founded the distillery. Take a seat and sip specialty bourbons and whiskeys from the upstairs brown spirits bar.

Water well for cyclists on the Pinellas Trail

American Freedom’s owners has plans for a freshwater well out back for those traveling along the Pinellas Trail, too. That’s right, it’s not all about the booze. Cyclists, you’re welcome.

Bring your appetite, St. Pete. While the menu won’t be sprawling, the creators plan to offer an upscale bar menu. Bite options will include a hearty charcuterie board, a great burger, and a few more elevated takes on bar favorites.
