Nicko’s Pizza & Subs brings scratch-made pizzas and subs to 4th St South

Nicko’s Pizza & Subs brings scratch-made pizzas and subs to 4th St South

A new pizza and sub shop is now serving up delicious family recipes on 4th Street South. Nicko’s Pizza & Subs is open Monday-Saturday from 11 am – 9 pm at 1239 4th Street South, and already the laid-back pizza joint is getting rave reviews from those in the neighborhood.

Nicko’s is a labor of love from owner Nick Faraone, who first began tossing pizzas in the family business when he was only 12 years old. He learned the tricks of preparing, rolling, tossing and creating scratch pizzas at his father’s side, and has spent all of his life since then developing his skills and perfecting recipes.

Local art, relaxed vibes and hot meals abound at Nicko’s

Faraone knows that pizza may be the draw at first, and it’s hard to say no to options like buffalo chicken, bruschetta margarita, or the meat-fueled Macho Man pie. But Faraone is also confident confident that once people try the subs, they’ll be hooked on much more than just the hand-tossed pies.

The main attraction in the sandwich realm is the Steak and Cheese Deluxe, which is an 8-inch hoagie that is piled with shaved rib-eye, grilled onion, mushroom, roasted green peppers and mozzarella before being oven baked. It is then topped with lettuce, tomato, mayo, oil and vinegar dressing and cherry pepper relish.

Additionally, Nicko’s has commissioned a mural inside its dining that is being painted by local visual artist Patti Suzette. Suzette will be finishing the mural live this Friday night while customers watch on. Supporting local is important to Faraone, who grew up in the area and looks forward to becoming a neighborhood favorite for so many living nearby in Roser Park, Old Southeast and Coquina Key.

Nicko’s has a spacious, relaxed and eclectic dining room and bar with TVs, beer and wine rustic fixtures. In addition to some seriously creative specialty pizzas and the long list of subs, Nicko’s offers a great list of hot and carb-centered small bites. Meatballs, cheesy garlic toast, bruschetta and an oven-baked pepperoni roll offer plenty of good snacks for the visit.
